Peer Review Process

Tarbiyatuna: Journal of Islamic Education applies a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of all manuscripts submitted to the journal. The review process is designed to evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly while maintaining confidentiality for both authors and reviewers.

All manuscripts submitted to Tarbiyatuna are evaluated based on their originality, methodological rigor, theoretical contribution, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the scope of Islamic education studies.

The peer review process typically takes 4–8 weeks, depending on reviewer availability and the extent of revisions required.

Initial Manuscript Screening

Upon submission through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, each manuscript undergoes an initial editorial screening conducted by the Editor-in-Chief or assigned Section Editor.

During this stage, the manuscript is evaluated for:

  • Relevance to the aims and scope of Tarbiyatuna: Journal of Islamic Education

  • Compliance with the journal template and author guidelines

  • Originality and similarity index (plagiarism screening)

  • Language clarity and academic writing quality

  • Ethical compliance

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the author for revision or rejected before entering the peer review stage.

Double-Blind Peer Review

Tarbiyatuna adopts a double-blind peer review system, meaning that both the identity of the authors and the reviewers remain anonymous during the review process.

Once the manuscript passes the initial screening, the Editor assigns at least two independent reviewers who have expertise relevant to the topic of the manuscript.

Reviewers are selected based on:

  • Academic expertise in the relevant field

  • Research publication record

  • Experience in peer reviewing scholarly articles

Reviewers are given approximately 10–14 days to complete the evaluation. If additional time is required, the reviewer may request an extension from the editor.

Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on several criteria, including:

  • Originality and novelty of the research

  • Relevance to the field of Islamic education

  • Clarity of research objectives

  • Appropriateness of the research methodology

  • Validity and reliability of data analysis

  • Strength of theoretical framework

  • Quality of discussion and interpretation

  • Contribution to existing literature

  • Clarity of writing and structure

Reviewers are expected to provide constructive feedback and clear recommendations to improve the manuscript.

Reviewer Recommendations

Based on the evaluation, reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions:

  1. Accept Submission – The manuscript is accepted without revision.

  2. Minor Revision – The manuscript requires minor revisions before acceptance.

  3. Major Revision – The manuscript requires substantial revisions and must be resubmitted for further review.

  4. Reject and Resubmit – The manuscript requires major improvements and may be reconsidered as a new submission.

  5. Reject – The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the journal.

All reviewer comments are communicated to the authors through the editorial system.

Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding manuscript acceptance based on reviewers’ recommendations and editorial evaluation.

The final decision may include:

  • Accept

  • Minor Revision

  • Major Revision

  • Reject

In cases where reviewers provide conflicting recommendations, the editor may invite an additional reviewer to provide further evaluation.

Revision Process

Authors receiving revision decisions are required to revise their manuscripts according to reviewer comments and submit the revised version within the specified deadline.

Authors must also provide a response to reviewers, explaining how each comment has been addressed in the revised manuscript.

Revised manuscripts may be sent back to the reviewers for additional evaluation if necessary.

Copyediting and Proofreading

Once a manuscript is accepted, it proceeds to the copyediting stage to improve clarity, grammar, and consistency with the journal’s formatting standards.

The manuscript then undergoes layout editing and proofreading before final publication.

Authors will receive page proofs for final approval before publication.
